Consumer Reference Group for Older Persons (CROP):

This group focuses on the needs and issues of well-being for people over 50, having input into the planning and development of services for well to frail-older persons.

Meets on bimonthly basis at Hamilton House, 14 Stafford Street, Midland.

The Get Away Video:

A group of 12 Get Away members met in October 2000 at Sculpture Park in Mundaring to make a video. It gave the members an opportunity, in their own words to describe how they felt about the group and the personal benefits of their involvement with each other and the activities. To add to the excitement of the day each took turns to have the exciting experience of riding on the back of a Harley Davidson. The video includes footage of the bikes and interviews providing great visual images that challenge some of the stereotypes held by the community of older persons. The women are vibrant, excited – full of life!

They talk about the group giving them the confidence to get out and do things, how it is like a surrogate family and how they are enjoying and embracing their "old age!"

The video is used to promote the group in the community to attract new members and be presented at a conference on "positive aging".
