The Leisure Focus program allows young adults with disabilities to engage in recreational activities of their choice.
The Program aims to improve an individual's "quality of life" through supported participation in activities during leisure time that promote inclusion in the community.
The adult is matched with a volunteer buddy or support worker, who accompanies and assists the person to access and participate in a recreational activity.
Some examples of recreational activities include walking, cycling, gym, music and sport.
As well as individual activities, group activities are organised to allow people participating in the Leisure Focus Program to mix with their peer group.
A respite service is provided for up to 20 carers of people with disabilities.
The priority of who gets the service depends on the age of the carers, the level of support required and other respite support already received.
The current fee-for-service is $3.00 per hour.
The criteria for access to the Leisure Focus program is for people:
aged between 16 and 60 with a disability - intellectual, physical, sensory, or acquired brain injury;
who do not already have the opportunity to participate in a recreational activity of their choice; and
who live in the Shires of Mundaring and Kalamunda; and suburbs with the postcode 6056 in the City of Swan.
The criteria for access to the Respite Program is for people:
who have ageing carers overs 65 years or over, and/or
have high support needs with carers requiring respite
